This time last year one of our divers sent us this link…
And so inspired this year’s Halloween theme – Underwater Pumpkin Carving
There were a lot of predive issues to consider…
What size/shape/colour of pumpkin do I want? Do pumpkins float? (Yes) What tools do I need? (Dive knives worked well as did a hacksaw blade and a sharpened ice cream scoop – but did you know that there are official pumpkin carving knives in existence?)
We had planned to dive on Thursday night – on Halloween itself but the weather put a stop to that plan and the dive was postponed until Sunday and much nicer weather.
So off we headed to Scorching Bay we headed (we figured we shouldn’t be adding pumpkin to the Marine Reserve!) We had
decided to make our lives a little simpler and scoop out our pumpkins before going diving and leave the ‘lids’ on shore so they didn’t drift away.
A dozen divers headed underwater armed with pumpkins, knives (tools!) and cameras to create their masterpieces. Visibility wasn’t great but it was good enough to see your pumpkin.
Our surface support crew were kept busy organising a fantastic beachside BBQ complete with salad!
Dinner was then followed by Tricks & Treats….
Photos of our pumpkins were then posted on Facebook and divers and their friends and family voted for their favourite. Emma rallied everyone to get the most votes and won for herself her very first boat dive! She is very excited and looking forward to the experience.
A lot of fun was had by all our divers and we look forward to next year’s event
