We know Wellington’s dive sites, coastal conditions and the type of equipment that works well in New Zealand waters. Wellington is one of New Zealand’s great spearfishing locations, with access to a wide variety of local dive sites. Our coastline means there are regular opportunities to get in the water, and many areas are not overcrowded with divers. The Taputeranga Marine Reserve has been in place for more than 15 years, and spearos have seen the benefits around its borders, with crayfish, butterfish and blue moki populations increasing in both size and number.
The Wellington coastline offers a mix of depths, terrain and target species, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced spearfishers. Newer divers can find accessible areas to build confidence, while more experienced spearos can explore deeper sections of the coast where snapper and kingfish may appear. Weather, tides and visibility all play an important role in choosing where to dive, so we recommend checking local forecasts through sites like Metservice and Tide King before heading out.
At Dive HQ Wellington, we stock a wide range of spearfishing gear for beginners through to advanced divers. We are proud stockists of Wettie products, including spearguns, wetsuits, fins, masks, snorkels and accessories suited to New Zealand spearfishing conditions. Our speargun range includes beginner-friendly options through to carbon fibre, roller and reel guns for more experienced spearos.
Our team can help you choose the right speargun, wetsuit and accessories for your budget, experience level and hunting style. We also stock essential spearfishing accessories, including spare rubbers, dyneema, wishbones, dive floats, flags and more, so you can head out prepared for your next dive.
