& NO – not on the same day!
Travelling to the bottom of the South Island – Te Wai Pounamu was just the start of a unique club dive trip.
After a quick tour up Bluff Hill to see where we were headed for our long weekend and the obligatory photos at the signpost we headed out to dinner.
With two milestone birthdays to celebrate, a 21st and a 50th, we ate cake & lots of it!
The next morning we were up bright & early – excited to start the main event – cage diving with Great Whites and Shark Experience Bluff.
Fortunately the winds had dropped and as the sun rose we headed out to the Titi – Mutton Bird Islands, near Stewart Island.
On arrival it’s time to set up the cage and wait – patience is a virtue they say.
The first shark arrived pretty quickly but apparently we weren’t interesting enough for him and he left before the second group entered the water.
After an anxious wait and a change of location the sharks came back, Yeah!
With 4 sharks to keep us entertained we stayed in the water for the next 3 hours as we took turns in the cage watching these incredible animals. Looking at the photos afterwards it would appear that we saw 2 males and 3 females over the day between 3 to 4.5m in length which still makes them juveniles!
After a great day out with the sharks it was time for the next stage of our adventure as we headed to Oban – Stewart Island …
