Five years ago the team at Dive & Ski HQ decided that the Volunteer Wellington Coastguard deserved our support. They provide a great service to divers and others that love the ocean and spend a lot of time out on, in and under the water.
Our biggest fundraising effort occurs in November when we run our 24 Hour Dive but we are always ready to lend a hand when required.
Last month we were invited to participate in their annual raft race in Evan’s Bay.
This sounded like a fun way to offer our support so plans were made, supplies gathered and a raft was born!
We roped a team together & met up at the Coastguard Base on Evans Bay to check out our opposition. There were teams from Coastguard (unsurprisingly), the Police, Victoria University and us.
It was hard work but a lot of fun though team tactics and a revised raft & paddles may be called for in 2017.
We came 4th which sounds pretty good until you realise only 5 teams participated this year.
