How long does it take to complete a PADI Open Water Diver course?

Typically, the PADI Open Water Diver course at Dive Ski is completed over two weekends. This includes your theory (which can be started online via PADI eLearning), pool sessions to practice skills, and four open water dives, often held in the Taputeranga Marine Reserve.

What are the prerequisites for starting dive courses in NZ?

To enroll in our PADI dive courses, you must be at least 10 years old (for Junior Open Water) and be able to swim 200 meters comfortably. You will also need to complete a standard diving medical questionnaire to ensure you are fit for the water.

Can I complete my dive theory online?

Yes! We encourage students to use PADI eLearning for their dive courses in NZ. This allows you to complete the classroom portion at your own pace before joining us for the practical pool and ocean sessions in Wellington.

What is the next step after getting my PADI Open Water certification?

Most divers progress to the PADI Advanced Open Water course, which allows you to dive deeper (up to 30m) and explore new environments like wrecks or night diving. We also offer specialised PADI instructor courses for those looking to turn their passion into a career.
