Dive Club Wellington
Join our Wellington dive club — it’s free!
Keep diving, build confidence and stay connected with the local scuba diving community by joining Dive HQ Wellington’s dive club. Our club dives are designed to help certified divers keep their skills fresh, explore local dive sites and meet other divers in a relaxed, supportive environment.
We aim to get out at least three days a week, with multiple dives scheduled across the week. Whether you are newly certified, returning to diving, or an experienced local diver, there will usually be a buddy available and a dive suited to your experience level.
Wellington has some of the most diverse diving in New Zealand, with wrecks, reefs, marine reserves, hunting grounds and plenty of muck diving. Our local coastline offers excellent opportunities for scuba diving, freediving and exploring the underwater life around the Wellington region.
Most of our club dives are shore-based, making them easy to access and affordable to join. If you have your own gear, you can bring it along. If you need equipment, you only need to pay for dive gear hire.

Club Dives
Please book in advance by phone, messenger or email so we can confirm dive gear, a buddy and the planned dive location for you. If you would like a guide, please let us know before the dive day.
On the day of the dive, please call the shop to confirm where we will be diving:
- Thursdays: call after 3pm and meet at the beach at 5:45pm
- Weekends: call after 9am and meet at the beach at 9:45am
When you arrive at the dive site, introduce yourself to the Dive HQ Wellington team and we will help get everyone ready for the dive.
- Equipment: Collect gear from the van, set up and check that your equipment is working correctly.
- Briefing: Our staff will give the dive briefing and ask you to sign in before diving.
- Buddy checks: Gear up with your buddy and complete a buddy check using BWRAF.
- Entry and exits: Stay with your buddy and assist them if needed.
- Dive: Follow your dive plan and emergency procedures if required.
- Signing out: Before leaving, complete the dive profile sheet and sign out.
- Gearing down: Please ensure all hire gear is returned to the truck.
All our dive equipment is maintained, cleaned and sterilised to current standards.
