A PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor is able to teach PADI's core training courses from Open Water Diver up to PADI Divemaster level. Although the primary role of an Instructor is to teach you may also have responsibilities with guiding certified divers and in retail, advising on courses, trips and equipment.

Our courses will not just enable you to gain your certification but also teach you the skills required to gain employment in the dive industry worldwide. Our staff have years of experience in the industry, have worked around the world and understand the various roles of Instructors within the wider dive industry.

Claire has 20+ years in the industry and has been awarded Gold Status as a PADI Course Director for her work in Instructor Development. Paddy is a PADI Master Instructor with over 10 years of experience, & a keen free diver and technician.

After successful completion of your IDC we will provide you with opportunities to gain the teaching experience required for your PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) rating by team teaching with our experienced instructors.

PADI Dive Professional Information Evening

Programme Dates
Starting with the online theory we will cover the PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) Course over 3 weekends, starting in September or as a full time option from the 7th - 12th of October. The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Course along with the Emergency First Responder Instructor (EFRI) Course will be run over the 14th - 19th of October. The PADI Instructor Examination (IE) will be held in Wellington on the 22nd & 23rd of October.

Programme Overview

The IDC teaches you to conduct all PADI core courses. You'll be able to organise and present information, conduct skill sessions and control open water dives. 

Key topics include:

PADI Standards and Procedures for courses you can teach with in water workshops
Risk Management and Diver Safety
The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor
Marketing Diving and Sales Counseling

Entry Requirements
Dive Master Certification
18 years old 
A minimum of 80 dives is required to enroll
RSTC Medical Certificate signed by a doctor
Current first aid certificate
First Aid Instructor Certification is required prior to PADI issuing you your PADI Open Water SCUBA Instructor rating.
